| Write
a letter. You have a story for a song, but aren't sure how to get it started
in verse and chorus format? Try this exercise. Write it out as a prose letter.
Tell the story without worrying about form, or rhyme, or melody. When your letter
is done, look at what you've written. if it really is a story (well, at least
according to Aristotle's Poetics), it will have a beginning, middle and end. Once
you see the story laid out with its constituent parts, go back and try putting
it in lyric form. |
