Start
In a Different Way.
If you normally start with a riff or a melody, a different starting point, and
one that can unblock you creatively as well as helping hone your skills, is to
start with a chord progression. Don't start with the melody; don't start with
a riff. Work out the chords first, and develop a chord progression that holds
your interest. Only then turn to the other elements of the song.
